Regenerating Life
autopoiesis means "self-organizing living systems"
autopoiesis, llc applies a living systems approach to the regeneration of communities, ecosystems, and economies. We work in three related areas: design for life from building to site scales; systems transformation through process design, convening, mapping, modeling, and trans-disciplinary research; and integrated, community-driven territorial planning from bioregional to national scales.

Design for Life. autopoiesis, llc principal Kathryn Langstaff, M.Arch., has taught and trained with Christopher Alexander, one of the great contemporary design theorists and architects, in bringing wholeness and life into buildings, sites, landscapes, and processes through harmonizing life's energy. Kathryn is devoted to living processes that restore wholeness to both people and land, regenerating life and vitality. Services include the design of furniture, buildings, wellness centers, and gardens and regenerative master plans.
Systems Transformation. Our partners each bring 25 years of experience in designing, facilitating, and managing systems transformation initiatives. Services include process design, convening, mapping and modeling, regenerative supply networks and research for trans-disciplinary systems transformation initiatives in the service of a regenerative world.
Territorial Planning. We have been supporting integrated large landscape scale territorial planning and development since the publication of Ecological Design in 1996 and the design of the Reliable Prosperity framework for bioregional regeneration at Ecotrust from 1999-2002. Services include territorial planning at watershed to national scales integrating regenerative goals, just transition pathways, biophysical planning, systems mapping, and economic development planning.

Introducing Yanapakusunchis, E.I.R.L.
Yanapakusunchis, E.I.R.L, "We help each other" in Runasimi, the language of the Quechua people, was recently established by Kathryn Langstaff as the autopoiesis llc affiliate in Peru to support the indigenous communities in the Valle Sagrado de Los Inkas to regenerate their culture and ecosystems from glacier to Wilkamayu, "sacred river".
