Yanapakusunchis means, "we help each other," in Quechua.
We aspire to document the voices, stories, and memories of the Willkamayu when it was healthy, from elders and community members to relearn and retell the experiences of living in the valley when people swam, fished and ate nutrient rich food from the water of the Willkamayu river. We will share the rich culture of the Rio Willkamayu watershed in the Sacred Valley of the Incas for future generations and to establish a bench mark for regeneration of the river and supporting cultural sovereignty. Taking action when requested to support buen vivir through the pathway(s) identified by each community.
Working with the Peruvian governmental agencies, NGO’s, foundations, businesses, communities, schools, and intergovernmental organizations, we will begin to restore and regenerate the ecological and the cultural diversity.

Kusi Kawsay Association
Our Mission
By supporting traditional cultural practices, children will embrace the ecological mindfulness of their ancestors, and help
foster a balanced ecosystem.
Providing access to education that is rooted in Andean culture and tradition, Kusi Kawsay serves as an educational
model that inspires other indigenous schools to approach learning through a sensitive and stimulating environment while
honoring and celebrating traditional ways of life.
Our Guiding Principle
Reciproity, or Ayni, the Andean mandate of giving and receiving in all aspects of life, plays a significant role in Kusi
Kawsay’s educational approach. Reciprocity between man and nature is celebrated with Andean agrarian calendar events
focused on cosmic cycles of the solstice and equinox, as well as the dry and rainy seasons. This traditional calendar is the
foundation for Kusi Kawsay’s curriculum and the revival of ancestral cultural practices and rituals by students and their
families is creating a ‘living legacy’ for the community. By integrating these events into the school curriculum, Kusi Kawsay
not only broadens the education of its students, but also deepens the communities’ ties to its rich Andean roots.

agriculture through the wisdom of our ancestral Andean practices, which hold the solutions to ensuring global food security. Kusi Ñan is an Organic Farm project created by the
graduates of the Kusi Kawsay Andean School. Following the Kusi Kawsay education, the graduates were motivated to revitalize and reclaim their culture by contributing to their community as agents of change. A new road or a happy path, which in their native tongue of Quechua translates into “Kusi Ñan”, was created. |
Ñawpa ÑanÑawpa Ñan
This cultural work began in 1993, fourteen years before Pachamama’s Path came into being, and the amazing grassroots work throughout these years still serves as the strong foundation for all the projects that have come to fruition since, such as The Kusi Kawsay Andean School, and the most recent Kusi Ñan Organic Products. This collaborative work was initiated by a core group of local families in Pisac, Peru, with each individual contributing years of dedicated investigation of their ancestral heritage, as well as personal experiences in surrounding highland traditional communities that practice their traditional way of life to this day. Communally they weave their experiential knowledge, and together practice their traditional culture and values; serving as an inspiration as a viable path. This work is strongly rooted in traditional music, dance and ceremonial practices, which was activated through practicing and celebrating the Andean Calendar. Weavers of Life

Winay Taki Allyu
The Franco Salas family from Pisac, Peru, started this music group over 20 years ago. They are dedicated to the
investigation, practice and teaching of traditional music, song and dance in the town of Pisac and the surrounding
communities. They have recompiled a vast resource of information and knowledge regarding the instruments, dress, and
values, and also a deep understanding of the specific purpose of each vibration and use of instruments and voice to
communicate and reciprocate with the cosmos according to each time of year and what is happening in nature. They have
held music classes every Saturday open to the general public, inviting them to participate in community outreach events
through music, celebrating the Andean calendar in the town of Pisac, and inspiring communities to keep practicing their
valuable traditions. They formed a musical group of sikuris (panpipes) called “SIKIRIS P’ISAQA”.
“In this way we provide a space dedicated especially to children and youth to learn and practice their cultural heritage, which we as members of Wiñay Taki Ayllu teach with deep affection.”
